My Recommendations

This page contains some of my recommendations for web tools and applications that I use in my everyday work.

My Hosting

I have been using Bluehost as a web hosting company for two years and have found them to be reliable, easy to use and value for money. For a low fee each month, you can host unlimited websites on the one account, with no restriction on bandwidth or file transfer. When you sign up for a new account, they also throw in a free domain name.

I find their Control Panel to be very comprehensive. Useful features include Simple Scripts which allows for One Click Installation of software such as Wordpress, Basecamp and iContact and their File Manager which allows for easy upload of files to your website without having to use an external FTP programme.

You can have a look at what they have to offer here.

My Design

I use the premium theme Thesis by DIYThemes for all my websites. This theme, on first look, appears deceptively simple. But the beauty of this theme is that is allows for complete customization of the theme, both using the Thesis Options and the Design Options, and additionally, using the Thesis Open Hook plugin. This means that it is perfect for those of us with limited or no coding experience. If you are working with a designer on a custom design, Thesis is also a great template to start from.

Have a look at the Thesis demo site to get an idea of the capabilities of this design. Check out the Thesis Gallery Showcase to see all the well known bloggers and entrepreneurs that use Thesis.

Alternatively, there are some great ‘off the shelf’ premium themes are ThemeForest and WooThemes.
